Casting a fly rod is a lot like learning to play a musical instrument. Solid grounding in proven fundamentals, practice and lessons from a competent instructor are the keys to success. Yet many fly fishers continually use the same bad habits they acquired when they first learned to cast and wonder why they never see improvement.
Tailing loops, wind knots and lost flies are all symptoms that can be corrected with instruction from a casting instructor.
Whether you are a beginner to fly fishing, or an advanced caster looking to add some tricks to your repertoire, we have the lesson for you.
The Federation of Fly Fishers is an international non-profit organization dedicated to the betterment of the sport of fly fishing through Conservation, Restoration and Education. The Federation of Fly Fishers and its Councils are the only organized advocate for fly fishers on a regional, national and international level. There have been many big names involved with the IFFF including, Lee and Joan Wulff, Lefty Kreh, Mel Kreiger and Steve Rajeff.
The FFF Casting Instructor Certification Program (CICP) was developed in 1992 to enhance the overall level of instruction in fly casting by increasing instructor knowledge, casting proficiency, and teaching ability. A secondary goal was to create a common understanding of casting terminology and casting mechanics that would serve the fly-casting community, internationally and in North America.
As a beginner you will start with a solid foundation on which every cast is based and save money by not having to replace line, leaders, flies and tippit.
For the more experienced, self-taught casters, most casts work
just fine at 20-30 feet. As more line is added the leader will just not
lay out as straight as it should. We will get the fly rod working for
you to make your casts more relaxed, efficient and functional. For the
advanced caster I have drills to improve your accuracy, loop size and
distance.
